Michael Carter
Michael D. Carter is the founder and CEO of IC Edge, a diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) consulting firm that delivers high-quality intercultural competence education and DEI strategy development. Michael teaches that once we shift our mindsets to a more interculturally competent orientation, we allow diversity, equity, and inclusion to flourish within our organization. His primary responsibility is collaborating with organizations as they begin their diversity, equity, and inclusion journey and providing them with the tools needed to succeed. Michael is also an experienced facilitator of intercultural competence training and teaches frequently.
IC Edge (Intercultural Competence Edge) is a St. Paul, Minnesota-based consulting firm serving clients nationwide since 2015. IC Edge solutions are intercultural competence-based and cover a range of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) solutions, including delivery of the Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI) assessment. Workshops include signature case studies that bring content vividly and realistically to life. IC Edge’s educational and strategic work concludes with action planning that prepares each learner to return to their workplace ready to influence and implement change. Michael Carter is an MBA who employs his multi-decade corporate background in training and product development to lead a research-based and innovative firm in its approach to skills development. Michael and his team of top national consultants and facilitators address the DEI needs of organizations ranging from small businesses to large corporations to nonprofits, educational institutions, and boards of directors. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Michael relocated to the Midwest to join the 3M Company, where he enjoyed a 25-year career in sales, marketing, product development, leadership training, and workplace transformation.
Michael obtained his BS in business from Syracuse University and an MBA from the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. Although he spent many years as a successful sales and marketing professional, he moved into the DE&I field because of his passion for studying and teaching intercultural competence. Michael is also a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory©. Over the years, Michael has developed many training tools and exercises that help workshop participants understand and become comfortable with the concepts of intercultural competence, equity, and inclusion.
